A lot has been
happening around the strike that is crippling the Tollywood circuit right now
but here is a roundup that will help you understand the situation better. At
one point, the Cinema business was disorganized and insecurities were high.
Those who were feeling insecure formed a union and it eventually branched out
to directors association, producers association with the intent of being
together for all activities.
Later on, the 24 crafts formed their own association including the cine drivers. The likes of fighters, writers, choreographers, dubbing artists etc formed an association and each entity has got its own registration fees. By taking memberships, the office bearers assured that their rights will be protected. The members were told stuff like 'You will get sops such as lands if you become members'. When there is an issue the unions come together and a communist outlook has been formed.
The supreme body is Film Chamber and final decisions are made there. Every union has office bearers. Now, the burning issue is the demand from the unions that anyone who is doing a film should take only union members and not outsiders. But the producers who think in a more capitalist manner have been silent about the demand and left the decision to film chamber. Ultimately, film chamber has given decision in favor of producers that they can get anyone from anywhere. This has not gone well with the unions and the strike has been called. The way it is happening, everything looks quite a deadlock situation but let us wish this gets resolved soon and all get back to work.
