Almost the all
the big heroes made their presence felt at "Memu Saitham" event, as
Tollywood joined its hands to entertain non-stop for 12 hours on last Sunday to
raise funds for Hudhud comments. All in all, a mere 11.5 Crores was collected,
and this includes the amount donated by all heroes and heroines in individual
capacity earlier, and they handed over the cheque to AP CM Relief Fund.
Criticism is now brewing over the amount collected, as many term it is a peanuts from an industry that gyrates more than 500 crores turnover ever year. In this connection, senior director-producer Tammareddy Bharadwaja made few interesting comments. "We've done a full day program and ended up with 11.5 crores, but SP Balu has done a live-singing show for one hour and collected 1 crore on very same day", he quipped.
If truth to be told, does Memu Saitham and SP Balu's singing show qualify for a comparison? If so, we have to blame Tammareddy equally for these dismal collections of the 12 hours telethon. If a ticket is priced at 1000 rupees and 10,000 people are allowed to attend, then it would make 1 crore easily, but not 10 crores. If the ticket rates are hiked, then 10000 people will not attend the event. The feasibility for such events shouldn't be looked like how much is collected in how many hours, say market experts. So, organizing such an event and expecting 100 crore inflows is like building a dam on a dry river.
